Karya Mulia School for the Deaf, Surabaya, East Java
This is an important ongoing project with the Rotary Clubs of Mount Lawley, Cambridge and Surabaya, as well as Hearing AID-East Java, to improve opportunities for children in Surabaya who are deaf or hearing impaired.
In recent years this project has provided modern digital audiological equipment and training in its use to assist in early detection of an intervention for hearing impairment in East Java. Recently our club presented a diagnostic audiometer and a digital tympanometer to the school and in 2018/2019 Rotary has funded the construction of a new library for the students to enjoy.
In recent years the Rotary Clubs of Mount Lawley, Cambridge and Surabaya, with support from Amcor, have supported an annual teacher exchange between Karya Mulia and teachers in Perth. Two teachers from Australia have visited Karya Mulia and two Indonesian teachers have visited Perth, to increase knowledge and learn new skills.
This project also sits within the sister-state relationship that WA has with East Java. A great way to promote international relationships!
